Uncoated spherical graphite
Uncoated spherical purified graphite (uSPG) — purified graphite milled and shaped into rounded particles, the immediate precursor to coated spherical purified graphite. DOE's supply-chain map places uSPG on both the natural and synthetic branches. Spherical graphite reaches world markets overwhelmingly as Chinese exports; the first U.S. commercial plant began production in February 2024.
