NMG Bécancour Battery Material Plant

Nouveau Monde Graphite's planned battery material plant in Bécancour, Québec, combining shaping, purification and coating units to refine flake graphite concentrate from the company's Matawinie Mine into active anode material. The first plant is sized at 13,000 tonnes per year of active anode material dedicated to Panasonic Energy, with a 44,000 tonnes-per-year facility described by the company as the follow-on step. In February 2026 NMG acquired a 143,000 m² brownfield site with an existing industrial building adjacent to its greenfield property in Bécancour, developing a class-3 estimate in H1-2026 toward a final investment decision targeted for H2-2026; the plant is pre-FID and not under construction on any source loaded here. The three transformations are recorded as separate planned lines; the company page names shaping, purification and coating units without stating the material handoff order, so the intermediate material split is inferred and labelled as such.

Purification

Purification unit (planned)

Announced

Purification unit of the planned Bécancour Battery Material Plant, refining flake graphite concentrate from the Matawinie Mine; NMG names shaping, purification and coating units without stating the order of material handoffs, so the intermediate materials of each line are inferred

Material flow

Natural graphite concentrate → Purified flake graphite

Capacity

No capacity claim. Absence of a figure means no source publishes one.

Qualification

No qualification claim. Status does not imply qualified output.

Particle processing

Shaping unit (planned)

Announced

Shaping (particle-shaping) unit of the planned Bécancour Battery Material Plant; both of this line's materials are inferred because NMG names the plant's shaping, purification and coating units without describing the material handoffs between them

Material flow

Purified flake graphite → Uncoated spherical graphite

Capacity

No capacity claim. Absence of a figure means no source publishes one.

Qualification

No qualification claim. Status does not imply qualified output.

Anode finishing

Coating unit and active anode material output (planned)

Announced

Coating unit of the planned Bécancour Battery Material Plant, producing active anode material to Panasonic Energy's technical and quality specifications from Matawinie graphite concentrate

Material flow

Uncoated spherical graphite → Coated spherical purified graphite (CSPG)

Capacity

13,000 t/year · Product mass · Target · as of Feb 25, 2026

Qualification

No qualification claim. Status does not imply qualified output.
