NGC Battery Materials BAM Plant (France, site not stated in source)

Northern Graphite's planned battery anode material plant in France, submitted by its Frankfurt-based Battery Materials Division (NGCBM) and recognised on 25 March 2025 as an EU Critical Raw Materials Act Strategic Project under the entry 'European Initiative for Strategic and Sustainable Graphite Production', promoted by NGC Battery Materials GmbH and spanning France, Namibia and Germany. Under the project scope, pre-purification, milling and shaping of graphite occur in Namibia and purification and coating take place at a new plant in France, with battery testing at NGCBM's Frankfurt laboratory; mining at Okanjande is explicitly outside the Strategic Project scope. Northern states the French plant will cost some EUR 159 million (CAD 244 million), is targeted to begin operations by 2028 with an initial capacity of 20,000 tonnes per year of battery-grade anode material and potential to scale to 50,000 tonnes, and will be supplied with graphite concentrate from the Okanjande mine in Namibia, which is on care and maintenance pending restart financing. No French site has been named on any source loaded this pass, so the region and locality follow the corpus convention for unstated locations. Strategic Project designation is a permitting and visibility status, not a financing action; no committed government instrument for this plant was found on any source loaded.

Purification

Graphite purification (planned)

Announced

Planned purification stage of the French BAM plant. Under the Strategic Project scope, pre-purification, milling and shaping of the Okanjande graphite are done in Namibia and purification is done at the new French plant. No purification chemistry or equipment configuration is stated on any source loaded this pass; the intermediate material split between the purification and coating stages is inferred from that stated division of work.

Material flow

Natural graphite concentrate → Uncoated spherical graphite

No capacity claim. Absence of a figure means no source publishes one.

Qualification

No qualification claim. Status does not imply qualified output.

Anode finishing

Anode coating and finishing (planned)

Announced

Planned coating stage of the French BAM plant, producing battery-grade anode material for supply to OEMs including battery cell producers. Battery testing is to be done at NGCBM's laboratory in Germany. No coating chemistry or equipment configuration is stated on any source loaded this pass.

Material flow

Uncoated spherical graphite → Coated spherical purified graphite (CSPG)
