Urbix Muscle Shoals CSPG Facility

Urbix, Inc.'s planned commercial-scale coated spherical purified graphite (CSPG) plant at Muscle Shoals, Alabama, selected by DOE's Office of Manufacturing and Energy Supply Chains in September 2024 to enter award negotiation for Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funding, with a recipient federal cost share of $124,638,300 in DOE's project fact sheet. The scope is one commercial module producing approximately 10,000 t/year of CSPG, at a site DOE says offers the potential to ramp to 30,000 t/year. The status is unresolved: Urbix rebranded as Allied Graphite Inc. in January 2026, and in February 2026 the company retained JLL to lead a structured site selection process for a planned North American commercial facility; its operations page as of this pass describes only a Mesa, Arizona pilot site and says the company is evaluating additional locations. A federal award does exist, filed under the successor company name: USAspending records award DEMS0000114 to ALLIED GRAPHITE INC., $124,609,721 obligated and $0 outlayed, signed 22 December 2024, with Muscle Shoals as the place of performance (see the linked instrument record). No source loaded records a construction start or a confirmation that Muscle Shoals remains the selected site, so the line is recorded as announced only. The DOE selection announcement page cited in the coverage manifest was not reachable; DOE's MESC project fact sheet was located and used instead.
