Torngat Metals Strange Lake Rare Earth Project
Torngat Metals' Strange Lake project: a planned open-pit mine and concentration plant at Strange Lake (Lac Brisson) in Nunavik, northern Quebec, with road and port links to Labrador and a planned rare earth separation plant at Sept-Iles, Quebec. The deposit holds light and heavy rare earths, notably dysprosium and terbium. NRCan's Critical Minerals Infrastructure Fund approved up to CA$10 million (December 20, 2024, pending final due diligence); on June 17, 2025 Torngat announced a signed CA$110 million bridge loan facility from Export Development Canada plus a CA$55 million loan commitment from the Canada Infrastructure Bank, with CIB reporting financial close on its enabling-infrastructure loan on June 23, 2025. The CA$165 million funds pre-construction and early works (engineering and environmental studies, permit applications, utility connections, airstrip rehabilitation); production is targeted for 2028, with full project financing planned as a later step.
