Tokai COBEX Savoie BAM4EVER Battery Anode Material Plant (Vénissieux)
Tokai COBEX Savoie SAS's battery anode material (BAM) operation at its Vénissieux production site near Lyon, France — the plant behind 'BAM4EVER (Phase I&II)', recognised on 25 March 2025 as a Strategic Project under the EU Critical Raw Materials Act. The site-specific evidence is a June 2022 report by the Rhône unit of DREAL Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes on the company's March 2022 filing for a modification titled 'Battery Anode Material (BAM)': developing on site the production of 200 tonnes per month of graphite powder for lithium-ion EV batteries, by crushing and micronising graphite blocks in an existing building with continuous laser particle-size control targeting a 30 µm finished product. Two loaded sources characterise the feed differently — the prefectural filing classifies 500 t of the BAM feedstock as natural graphite, while Tokai COBEX's own product literature describes its E³BAM as synthetic graphite of 99.99% carbon purity mass-produced in purpose-built facilities in France. Both are recorded as they stand rather than reconciled. Business France's France For Batteries directory states that Tokai COBEX Savoie has built brownfield BAM capacity in the AuRA region and lists a current European BAM volume of 2,000 t, which is the basis for the operating status. Trade-press reports that the greenfield Phase III scale-up was paused could not be loaded this pass (Usine Nouvelle returned HTTP 403) and are not recorded. The site's ICPE-authorised principal activity is carbon manufacture / graphitisation and cathode baking for the aluminium industry, which is out of scope for this chain; only the BAM line is tracked here.

BAM4EVER (Phase I&II) battery anode material line
Crushing and micronisation of graphite blocks into anode-grade graphite powder inside an existing building at the Vénissieux site: 500 kW crusher rated 300 kg/h, continuous laser particle-size control targeting a 30 µm finished product, pneumatic transfer, de-ironing and big-bag packing. Tokai COBEX describes the resulting product as E³BAM synthetic graphite of 99.99% carbon purity, tailored for advanced lithium-ion battery applications and mass-produced in its purpose-built facilities in France. The 2022 prefectural filing instead classifies the BAM feedstock as natural graphite (500 t) and refers to natural graphite fines from the crushing step; the two characterisations are recorded as they stand and not reconciled. The stage token reflects the milling and micronisation transformation actually documented at this site; the host site's authorised graphitisation and cathode-baking capacity serves the aluminium industry and is not tracked in this chain.
