Syrah Balama Graphite Operation

Syrah Resources' natural graphite mine and concentrator at Balama in southern Cabo Delgado Province, Mozambique, held through its subsidiary Twigg Exploration and Mining Limitada. The company describes 2 Mtpa of ore throughput yielding about 350 ktpa of graphite at 94% to 98% fixed carbon, 80% fine flake, from a simple low-strip open pit with conventional crushing, grinding, flotation, filtration, drying, screening and bagging. Production is run in campaigns and is currently heavily curtailed: Argus reported on 23 July 2026 that June-quarter output fell 65% year on year to 2,000 t, was 90% lower quarter on quarter, represented residual production from the previous quarter, and that the next round of production was deferred to the July-September quarter on weak ex-China demand for graphite fines and roughly 50% higher Mozambican diesel prices, with planned maintenance completed and the mine able to scale up quickly. In 2025 Balama produced 67 kt and sold 55 kt into ex-China destinations. The U.S. International Development Finance Corporation, which lent US$150 million to Twigg for Balama, announced on 25 March 2026 a pathway converting part of that loan into common equity in Syrah with the balance rolling into a convertible loan note, plus a new-money investment and warrants. Syrah's own quarterly ASX release could not be loaded (announcements page is script-rendered and the Listcorp mirror returned HTTP 403), so quarter figures are recorded from Argus. The graphite material vocabulary begins at concentrate, so the line records its concentrate output and no run-of-mine ore input.
