REEtec RE1 Separation Plant (Herøya)
REEtec AS's first commercial rare earth separation plant (RE1) at Herøya Industrial Park, Porsgrunn, Norway, designed for 720 t/year of NdPr oxide from mixed rare earth carbonate feedstock supplied by Vital Metals. Financing of NOK 1,200 million (EUR 115 million) closed in November 2022; trade press reported in August 2024 that construction was well advanced with start-up commissioning begun and raw-material readiness expected early 2025. Recorded conservatively as under-construction as of August 2024 — no later primary-source confirmation of first production was located during this pass. REEtec participated in the H2020 SecREEts project (grant 776559) that piloted its separation technology. The 720 t/year figure is the company's stated design capacity ahead of ramp-up and is recorded as target-ramp.
