NOVONIX Enterprise South Synthetic Graphite Plant

NOVONIX's planned second synthetic graphite plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on 182 acres in the Enterprise South Industrial Park. DOE's Loan Programs Office announced a conditional commitment on 16 December 2024 for a direct loan of up to US$754.8 million (US$692.0 million principal plus US$62.8 million capitalized interest) under the Advanced Technology Vehicles Manufacturing program, toward a plant designed for 31,500 metric tonnes per year of synthetic graphite made on continuous induction-based furnaces. No source loaded on this pass states that the loan has closed: DOE's own announcement says it must complete an environmental review and the company must satisfy technical, legal, environmental and financial conditions before DOE can decide whether to enter definitive financing documents and fund the loan, and NOVONIX disclosed on 12 January 2025 that it had not been selected for 48C tax credits for Enterprise South (one of the loan's contemplated tranches) and was working with LPO to understand the impact. The line is therefore recorded as announced, not financed. Chattanooga and Hamilton County approved the land purchase (about US$4.6 million) on 13 March 2025.
