Northern Graphite Lac des Îles Mine

Northern Graphite's flake graphite mine and mill at Lac-des-Îles, Québec, which the company describes as North America's only operating graphite mine, producing roughly 15,000 tonnes of graphite concentrate a year against installed capacity of 25,000 tonnes per year. In August 2025 the company announced an interest-free repayable contribution of up to $6.225 million from Natural Resources Canada, delivered by the Economic Development Agency of Canada for Quebec Regions under the Regional Economic Growth through Innovation program, financing 75% of eligible costs of a pit extension and allowing the company to avoid placing the mine on care and maintenance at the end of 2025. The mine and mill were nevertheless placed in temporary care and maintenance in November 2025 after a mill bearing failure, with maintenance and pit-development work brought forward; the company reported no mining, processing, production, sales or shipments in Q1 2026 and targeted a restart in Q3 2026 subject to approval of an amended Certificate of Authorization filed in February 2026. The government release on canada.ca could not be loaded (HTTP 403 on 2026-08-12), so the contribution is recorded from the company's own announcement. The graphite material vocabulary used here begins at concentrate, so the mine line records its concentrate output and no run-of-mine ore input.
