NMG Matawinie Graphite Mine

Nouveau Monde Graphite's open-pit flake graphite mine and concentrator at Saint-Michel-des-Saints, Québec, which the Government of Canada describes as the largest graphite mine in North America and the G7, supplying up to 106,000 tonnes of graphite concentrate annually over a 25-year mine life. Construction began with a groundbreaking on 19 May 2026 attended by the Prime Minister. The federal package announced that day comprises a seven-year offtake agreement for 30,000 tonnes annually of graphite concentrate, a $459 million financing package from Export Development Canada and the Canada Infrastructure Bank, a $113 million strategic commitment from the Canada Growth Fund (after its $35.6 million commitment of December 2024), and $4.4 million through Natural Resources Canada's Energy Innovation Program for an electric-powered Caterpillar 950GC loader. NMG's own March 2026 disclosure of the binding offtake framework states a US$335 million fully committed senior secured project debt commitment letter from EDC and CIB. Concentrate feeds NMG's planned Bécancour Battery Material Plant. The graphite material vocabulary used here begins at concentrate, so the mine line records its concentrate output and no run-of-mine ore input.
