In May 2024 Lomiko announced a US$8.35 million Technology Investment Agreement grant from the U.S. Department of Defense under Defense Production Act Title III funded through the Inflation Reduction Act, matched by the company for a US$16.7 million total over five years, alongside a CA$4.9 million non-repayable contribution from Natural Resources Canada's Critical Minerals Research, Development and Demonstration program. The money funds study work in three phases, including a pre-feasibility study, metallurgical studies with anode-material piloting, and a definitive feasibility study; by February 2025 roughly half the study program was complete and the DoD had permitted a transfer of funding from Phase 2 to Phase 1.
